Hi everyone! A few days ago, we left Bend-Sunriver RV park and head to Ainsworth State Park, which is just a few miles from Portland OR. We wanted to explore the Columbia River Scenic Drive and this State Park was the perfect spot to stay at, since it is at the entrance of the scenic drive 🙂 The park itself is very small but pretty.
We left Bend area on a sunny morning, and got here to find rain…and more rain. While setting up the trailer, the front electronic tongue hitch gave out on us… booooo… Thankfully there was a Camping World close to the State Park so we were able to head there and get a manual tongue jack, which in fact, is what I always wanted. We never trusted the electronic tongue jack 🙂
Once we got all setup, we drove into Portland to explore the town for the evening, but as we mentioned already, we were here because we wanted to explore the scenic drive and thankfully the next morning we woke up to a semi sunny day with no rain in the forecast. We head out early and drove the scenic drive from the state park all the way into Portland, stopping in almost every waterfall or hike along the way.
We enjoyed exploring the Columbia River Gorge for two days before heading out to the Oregon Coast but were a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to see the fall colors in full bloom. According to several people we talked to, the foliage was coming late this year 😦 Still, the drive is very pretty and worth it for sure, if you are in the area! The drive itself is entertaining. Along the way you will see several stops to get out of the car and explore either a beautiful waterfall, a scenic view, or a pretty hike.
